What you’ll need

  • 3 quarts of Honda ATF-Z1 transmission fluid
  • 17mm socket and wrench
  • 10mm socket and wrench
  • Funnel
  • Drain pan

Instructions

Step 1: Safety first

Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool down completely.

Step 2: Locate the transmission drain plug

The transmission drain plug is located on the bottom of the transmission pan. It is a 17mm bolt.

Step 3: Drain the transmission fluid

Place the drain pan under the transmission drain plug. Use the 17mm wrench to loosen the drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain out. Be careful not to overtighten the drain plug when you reinstall it.

Step 4: Replace the transmission filter

Once the transmission fluid has drained out, you can remove the transmission filter. The transmission filter is located inside the transmission pan. It is held in place by two 10mm bolts.

Step 5: Install the new transmission filter

Insert the new transmission filter into the transmission pan. Tighten the two 10mm bolts to secure the filter in place.

Step 6: Reinstall the transmission drain plug

Reinstall the transmission drain plug and tighten it to 29 ft-lbs.

Step 7: Add new transmission fluid

Use the funnel to add 3 quarts of Honda ATF-Z1 transmission fluid to the transmission. Check the transmission fluid level with the dipstick and add more fluid as needed.

Step 8: Start the engine and check for leaks

Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Check for any leaks from the transmission drain plug or the transmission filter.

You have now successfully changed the transmission fluid in your Honda 2000 V6.
