How to Apply Decals to Car Body
Materials You’ll Need
- Decal
- Rubbing alcohol
- Water
- Soap
- Squeegee
- Masking tape (optional)
Step 1: Prepare the Car Surface
- Wash the area of the car where you want to apply the decal with soap and water. Make sure to rinse the area thoroughly and let it dry completely.
- Wipe the area down with rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining dirt or oil.
Step 2: Prepare the Decal
- If the decal is not already pre-cut, cut it to the desired size and shape.
- Peel away the backing paper from the decal, leaving the adhesive side exposed.
Step 3: Apply the Decal
- Carefully align the decal with the desired location on the car. Once you are happy with the placement, press firmly on the decal to adhere it to the surface.
- Use a squeegee to smooth out the decal and remove any air bubbles. Start from the center of the decal and work your way outward.
- If the decal is large or complex, you may want to use masking tape to hold it in place while you apply it.
Step 4: Finish Up
- Once the decal is applied, let it dry for at least 24 hours before washing the car.
- To help protect the decal, you can apply a clear coat over it. This will help to prevent the decal from fading or peeling.
Tips
- If you are applying a decal to a curved surface, use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat the decal and make it more pliable.
- If you make a mistake, you can remove the decal by peeling it away slowly. Be careful not to tear the decal or damage the car’s paint.
- Decals can be used to personalize your car and make it stand out from the crowd.
