How to Fill Screw Holes in Car Body

Materials you will need

  • Body filler
  • Hardener
  • Sandpaper
  • Mixing board
  • Mixing stick
  • Clean rag

Instructions

1. Prepare the screw hole. Use a drill or a sharp object to countersink the screw hole. This will create a wider hole at the surface of the car body, which will help the body filler to adhere better.
2. Clean the screw hole. Use a clean rag to remove any dirt or debris from the screw hole.
3. Mix the body filler. In a mixing bowl, combine the body filler and hardener according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Mix until the body filler is smooth and free of lumps.
4. Apply the body filler. Use a mixing stick to apply the body filler to the screw hole. Fill the hole completely, but do not overfill it.
5. Smooth the body filler. Use a clean rag to smooth the body filler around the screw hole. Make sure that the body filler is level with the surface of the car body.
6. Allow the body filler to dry. Allow the body filler to dry completely according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
7. Sand the body filler. Once the body filler is dry, use sandpaper to sand it smooth. Start with a coarse grit sandpaper and gradually move to a finer grit sandpaper.
8. Paint the car body. If necessary, paint the car body to cover the repair.

Tips

* If the screw hole is large, you may need to use a fiberglass patch to reinforce the repair.
* If the body filler is not sanded smooth, it may be visible after the car body is painted.
* If you are not comfortable filling screw holes in a car body, you can take your car to a body shop for professional repair.
