How to Hydro Dip RC Car Body
Materials
- RC car body
- Hydro dipping film
- Activator
- Water
- Container large enough to fit the RC car body
- Gloves
- Mask
- Toothbrush
- Heat gun (optional)
- Clear coat (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the RC car body by sanding it down and cleaning it thoroughly with soap and water. Make sure to remove any dirt or grease.
- Cut the hydro dipping film to the desired size and shape. The film should be slightly larger than the RC car body.
- Fill the container with water and add the activator according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Stir the water until the activator is completely dissolved.
- Place the RC car body in the water and gently submerge it. Hold the body in place for a few seconds, then slowly release it.
- Place the hydro dipping film on top of the water and carefully align it with the RC car body. Use your fingers to smooth out the film and remove any wrinkles.
- Allow the film to sit on the water for 10-15 minutes, or until the film becomes transparent. This will allow the activator to penetrate the film and adhere it to the RC car body.
- Gently remove the RC car body from the water and rinse it off with clean water. Use a toothbrush to remove any excess film from the crevices of the body.
- Allow the RC car body to dry completely. This may take several hours or overnight.
- (Optional) Apply a clear coat to the RC car body to protect the hydro dipped finish. Allow the clear coat to dry completely before handling the body.
Tips
- Use a large container to ensure that the RC car body has plenty of room to move around in the water.
- Do not over-activate the water. Too much activator can cause the film to become brittle and difficult to work with.
- Be patient when applying the hydro dipping film. It is important to smooth out the film and remove any wrinkles to ensure a smooth finish.
- If you are using a heat gun to dry the RC car body, be sure to hold the gun at a distance and move it around constantly to avoid damaging the finish.
- Clear coat is not necessary, but it will help to protect the hydro dipped finish from scratches and wear.
Conclusion
Hydro dipping is a great way to add a custom look to your RC car body. With a little patience and practice, you can achieve professional-looking results.
