Materials You’ll Need:

  1. RC car body
  2. Hydrographic film
  3. Activator
  4. Water tank
  5. Gloves
  6. Respirator mask
  7. Container for the dip solution
  8. Dipping tool

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Preparation:

Before you begin, ensure you have all the necessary materials and a well-ventilated workspace.

Clean the RC car body thoroughly with soap and water to remove any dirt or debris.

2. Creating the Dip Solution:

Fill the container with clean water and add the activator as directed by the manufacturer.

Stir the solution to evenly distribute the activator.

3. Prepare the Hydrographic Film:

Cut the hydrographic film to a size that will cover the RC car body.

Gently submerge the film in the water tank, allowing it to float on the surface.

4. Dip the Body:

Carefully dip the RC car body into the water, submerging it completely.

Make sure the body is submerged for the recommended time, typically around 30 seconds.

5. Transfer the Film:

Slowly lift the RC car body out of the water and position it over the hydrographic film.

Use the dipping tool to gently press the body onto the film, ensuring complete contact.

6. Drying:

Remove the RC car body from the film and allow it to dry in a dust-free environment.

Once dry, the hydrographic film will have transferred onto the body.

7. Finishing:

If desired, you can apply a clear coat to protect the hydrographic film and enhance its durability.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality hydrographic film for the best results.
  • Follow the activator manufacturer’s instructions carefully to achieve the best adhesion.
  • Practice on a spare RC car body before attempting to hydro dip the actual body.
  • Wear gloves and a respirator mask when handling the activator and hydrographic film.
  • Keep the water temperature between 60-80°F (16-27°C) for optimal results.

Troubleshooting:

If you encounter any issues, try the following:

  • If the film does not stick to the RC car body, you may need to increase the activator concentration.
  • If the film tears or wrinkles, you may have submerged the body for too long or handled it too roughly.
  • If the hydrographic film fades over time, it may not have been sealed properly with a clear coat.
