How to Paint a Hard RC Car Body
Painting a hard RC car body is a great way to customize your car and make it stand out from the crowd. It’s also a relatively easy and inexpensive project that can be completed in a few hours.
Materials You’ll Need
- Hard RC car body
- Sandpaper (100-grit, 220-grit)
- Masking tape
- Primer
- Paint
- Clear coat
- Gloves
- Safety glasses
Step 1: Prepare the Body
The first step is to prepare the body for painting. This involves sanding the body to remove any imperfections or debris. Start with 100-grit sandpaper and sand the entire body until it is smooth. Then, switch to 220-grit sandpaper and sand the body again until it is very smooth.
Once the body is sanded, it’s time to mask off any areas that you don’t want to paint. This includes the windows, lights, and any other details that you want to keep the original color. Use masking tape to carefully cover these areas.
Step 2: Apply Primer
Primer is a thin layer of paint that helps the paint to adhere to the body. It also helps to fill in any small imperfections in the body. Apply a thin coat of primer to the entire body, making sure to cover all of the areas that you will be painting.
Allow the primer to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Apply Paint
Now it’s time to apply the paint. You can use any type of paint that you like, but I recommend using a hobby paint that is specifically designed for RC car bodies. This type of paint is more durable and will resist chipping and peeling.
Apply a thin coat of paint to the entire body, making sure to cover all of the areas that you want to paint. Allow the paint to dry completely before applying a second coat. You may need to apply multiple coats of paint to get the desired coverage.
Step 4: Apply Clear Coat
Once the paint is dry, it’s time to apply a clear coat. This will protect the paint from scratches and fading. Apply a thin coat of clear coat to the entire body, making sure to cover all of the areas that you painted.
Allow the clear coat to dry completely before removing the masking tape.
Step 5: Remove the Masking Tape
Once the clear coat is dry, it’s time to remove the masking tape. Carefully peel off the tape, making sure not to damage the paint.
Your RC car body is now painted and ready to be mounted on your car. Enjoy!
