How to Paint Your RC Car Body
Materials
- RC car body
- Sandpaper (various grits)
- Primer
- Paint
- Clear coat
- Masking tape
- Newspaper or plastic sheeting
Step 1: Preparation
Before you start painting, you need to prepare the RC car body. This involves sanding the body to remove any imperfections, and then cleaning it with soap and water to remove any dirt or grease.
Sanding
Start by sanding the body with a coarse-grit sandpaper (100-120 grit). This will remove any major imperfections in the plastic. Once you have sanded the body with the coarse-grit sandpaper, switch to a finer-grit sandpaper (220-240 grit) and sand the body until it is smooth to the touch.
Cleaning
Once you have sanded the body, clean it with soap and water to remove any dust or debris. You can use a mild dish soap and a soft cloth to clean the body. Once you have cleaned the body, rinse it with clean water and allow it to dry completely.
Step 2: Priming
Once the body is clean and dry, you can start priming it. Primer helps to create a smooth, even surface for the paint to adhere to. It also helps to prevent the paint from chipping or peeling.
To prime the body, apply a thin coat of primer to the entire surface of the body. Be sure to apply the primer in even strokes, and allow it to dry completely before applying a second coat.
Step 3: Painting
Once the primer is dry, you can start painting the body. You can use any type of paint that is designed for plastic, but I recommend using a spray paint for a smooth, even finish.
To paint the body, apply a thin coat of paint to the entire surface of the body. Be sure to apply the paint in even strokes, and allow it to dry completely before applying a second coat.
Step 4: Clear Coating
Once the paint is dry, you can apply a clear coat to protect the paint from scratches and chipping. Clear coat also helps to give the body a glossy finish.
To apply a clear coat, apply a thin coat of clear coat to the entire surface of the body. Be sure to apply the clear coat in even strokes, and allow it to dry completely.
Step 5: Masking
If you want to add any decals or graphics to the body, you will need to mask off the areas that you do not want to paint.
To mask off an area, apply a piece of masking tape to the area. Be sure to press the masking tape down firmly to ensure that it adheres to the body.
Step 6: Finishing
Once you have applied the decals or graphics, you can remove the masking tape and allow the body to dry completely.
Once the body is dry, you can reassemble the RC car and enjoy your new paint job!
