How to Take Care of Your Body During Periods
Periods can be a pain, both physically and emotionally. But there are things you can do to make them a little bit easier on your body.
Get plenty of rest
When you’re on your period, your body is working hard to shed its uterine lining. This can take a lot of energy, so it’s important to get plenty of rest.
Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night. If you can, take a nap during the day as well.
Eat healthy foods
Eating healthy foods can help you feel better both physically and emotionally during your period.
Be sure to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. These foods will give you the energy you need and help to reduce bloating.
Avoid processed foods, sugary drinks, and red meat. These foods can make your symptoms worse.
Exercise regularly
Exercise can help to relieve cramps, reduce bloating, and improve your mood.
Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. If you’re not used to exercising, start slowly and gradually increase the amount of time you spend working out.
Use over-the-counter pain relievers
If you’re experiencing cramps, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or naproxen.
These medications can help to reduce pain and inflammation.
Use a heating pad
A heating pad can help to relieve cramps and lower back pain.
Place the heating pad on your lower abdomen or lower back for 20-30 minutes at a time.
Take a warm bath
A warm bath can help to relax your muscles and relieve cramps.
Add some Epsom salts to the bath to help reduce inflammation.
Talk to your doctor
If you’re experiencing severe pain, heavy bleeding, or other symptoms that are interfering with your daily life, talk to your doctor.
Your doctor may be able to prescribe medication or recommend other treatments to help relieve your symptoms.
