1995 Lincoln Town Car Transmission Fluid
Transmission Fluid Type
The 1995 Lincoln Town Car uses Mercon® transmission fluid. This fluid is specifically designed for Ford vehicles and is not compatible with other types of transmission fluid.
Transmission Fluid Capacity
The 1995 Lincoln Town Car has a transmission fluid capacity of 12 quarts.
Transmission Fluid Change Interval
The transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. However, if you tow heavy loads or drive in severe conditions, you may need to change the fluid more frequently.
How to Change the Transmission Fluid
1. Gather your materials. You will need:
* Mercon® transmission fluid
* New transmission filter
* Transmission fluid pan gasket
* Wrench
* Drain pan
2. Safety first! Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool down.
3. Locate the transmission fluid pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the transmission.
4. Place the drain pan under the transmission fluid pan.
5. Loosen the bolts that hold the transmission fluid pan in place. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the drain pan.
6. Once the bolts are loose, carefully remove the transmission fluid pan. Be careful not to spill any fluid.
7. Replace the transmission filter.
8. Clean the transmission fluid pan and gasket.
9. Install the new transmission fluid pan gasket.
10. Reinstall the transmission fluid pan and tighten the bolts.
11. Add new transmission fluid to the transmission. Be sure to check the fluid level and add more fluid as needed.
12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, shift through all of the gears.
13. Check the transmission fluid level again and add more fluid as needed.
Tips
* If you are not comfortable changing the transmission fluid yourself, you can take your car to a mechanic.
* It is important to use the correct type of transmission fluid. Using the wrong type of fluid can damage the transmission.
* Check the transmission fluid level regularly and add more fluid as needed.
* If you notice any leaks or other problems with the transmission, have it inspected by a mechanic.
