2000 Lincoln Town Car Transmission Dipstick
Location
The transmission dipstick for a 2000 Lincoln Town Car is located on the driver’s side of the engine, near the back. It is a yellow or red plastic handle with a metal dipstick attached.
How to Check the Transmission Fluid
1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Wait a few minutes for the transmission fluid to settle.
3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
4. Reinsert the dipstick fully into the transmission.
5. Pull out the dipstick again and check the fluid level.
The fluid level should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks on the dipstick. If the fluid level is low, add more fluid through the dipstick tube.
What Type of Transmission Fluid to Use
The 2000 Lincoln Town Car uses Mercon V transmission fluid.
How to Add Transmission Fluid
1. Purchase a quart of Mercon V transmission fluid.
2. Open the hood and locate the transmission dipstick tube.
3. Insert a funnel into the dipstick tube.
4. Pour the transmission fluid into the funnel.
5. Check the fluid level on the dipstick.
6. Add more fluid as needed.
Tips
* Check the transmission fluid regularly, especially if you are experiencing any transmission problems.
* If the transmission fluid is dark or smells burnt, it may need to be changed.
* If you are not comfortable checking or adding transmission fluid yourself, you can take your car to a mechanic.
