Automatic Transmission
The 2004 Lincoln Town Car with an automatic transmission requires Mercon V transmission fluid. Mercon V is a low-viscosity, synthetic blend transmission fluid that is designed to provide excellent protection against wear and tear, and to help extend the life of the transmission.

Checking the Transmission Fluid Level
To check the transmission fluid level in the 2004 Lincoln Town Car, follow these steps:

Changing the Transmission Fluid
It is recommended that you change the transmission fluid in your 2004 Lincoln Town Car every 30,000 miles. To change the transmission fluid, follow these steps:
- Purchase the correct type of transmission fluid for your car.
- Locate the transmission pan.
- Place a drain pan under the transmission pan.
- Remove the transmission pan bolts.
