How to Change the Transmission Fluid in a 2007 Town Car
Materials Needed:
- Mercon V transmission fluid (4 quarts)
- Transmission filter
- Transmission pan gasket
- 10mm socket and wrench
- 13mm socket and wrench
- 15mm socket and wrench
- Fluid pump or funnel
- Drip pan
Instructions:
1. Park the Town Car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Allow the engine to cool completely.
3. Crawl under the Town Car and locate the transmission pan.
4. Place the drip pan under the transmission pan.
5. Remove the 10mm bolts that hold the transmission pan in place.
6. Carefully lower the transmission pan and allow the fluid to drain into the drip pan.
7. Remove the old transmission filter and gasket.
8. Install the new transmission filter and gasket.
9. Clean the mating surfaces of the transmission pan and the transmission.
10. Apply a thin bead of RTV sealant to the mating surface of the transmission pan.
11. Install the transmission pan and tighten the 10mm bolts to 10 ft-lbs.
12. Add 4 quarts of Mercon V transmission fluid to the transmission.
13. Start the engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes.
14. Shift the transmission through all gears and check for leaks.
