GM X-Body Cars
Overview
The GM X-body is a front-wheel drive platform that was used by General Motors from 1980 to 2005. The X-body was originally developed for the Chevrolet Citation, but it was eventually used in a variety of other vehicles, including the Pontiac Phoenix, Oldsmobile Omega, and Buick Skylark.
The X-body was a significant departure from previous GM front-wheel drive platforms. It was the first GM platform to use a transversely mounted engine, and it also featured a number of other innovative features, such as a MacPherson strut front suspension and a rack-and-pinion steering system.
The X-body was a commercial success for GM. It was praised for its fuel efficiency, handling, and affordability. However, the X-body was also criticized for its cramped interior and lack of power.
