How to Find a Water Leak in Your Car Body

There are a few different ways to find a water leak in your car body.

1. Check the Weatherstripping

The weatherstripping around your doors, windows, and sunroof is designed to keep water out. Over time, the weatherstripping can become damaged or worn, which can allow water to leak into the car.

To check the weatherstripping, look for any cracks, tears, or gaps. If you find any damage, you can replace the weatherstripping yourself or have it done by a mechanic.

2. Inspect the Body Seams

The body seams of your car are the areas where the different panels of the car are welded or glued together. These seams can sometimes leak if they are not properly sealed.

To inspect the body seams, look for any gaps or cracks. If you find any damage, you can seal the seams yourself using a sealant or have it done by a mechanic.

3. Check the Drain Plugs

Drain plugs are small holes in the bottom of your car that allow water to drain out. These plugs can sometimes become clogged, which can cause water to build up and leak into the car.

To check the drain plugs, look for any debris or dirt that is blocking the holes. If you find any debris, you can remove it using a small screwdriver or wire.

4. Use a Water Hose

One of the best ways to find a water leak is to use a water hose. Simply spray water over the exterior of your car, starting at the roof and working your way down. Pay attention to any areas where water starts to leak into the car.

Once you’ve found the leak, you can repair it yourself or have it done by a mechanic.
