How to Paint Lexan HO Car Bodies
Materials
- Lexan HO car body
- Sandpaper (100-grit, 220-grit)
- Masking tape
- Automotive primer
- Automotive paint
- Clear coat
- Spray gun or airbrush
- Compressor
- Safety glasses
- Respirator
Preparation
1. Sand the car body with 100-grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections.
2. Wash the car body with soap and water to remove any dust or debris.
3. Mask off any areas of the car body that you do not want to paint.
Priming
1. Apply a thin coat of automotive primer to the car body.
2. Allow the primer to dry completely.
Painting
1. Apply a thin coat of automotive paint to the car body.
2. Allow the paint to dry for 15-20 minutes.
3. Apply a second coat of paint.
4. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Clear Coating
1. Apply a thin coat of clear coat to the car body.
2. Allow the clear coat to dry completely.
Tips
- Use a light touch when sanding the car body.
- Apply the paint and clear coat in thin, even coats.
- Allow the paint and clear coat to dry completely before handling the car body.
- Wear safety glasses and a respirator when painting.
Troubleshooting
- If the paint is peeling or chipping, it may not have been applied properly.
- If the clear coat is cloudy, it may not have been applied properly.
- If the car body is not drying completely, it may be in a humid environment.
