How to Repair Car Body Paint
Materials You’ll Need:
- Car wash soap
- Sponge or wash mitt
- Bucket of water
- Automotive clay bar
- Clay bar lubricant
- Automotive scratch remover
- Polishing pad
- Wax or sealant
Steps:
1. Wash the Car
Before you can repair the paint, you need to wash the car to remove any dirt or debris. Use a car wash soap and a sponge or wash mitt, and be sure to rinse the car thoroughly.
2. Clay the Car
Claying the car will remove any surface contaminants, such as tar or brake dust. To clay the car, wet the surface of the car and the clay bar. Apply a small amount of clay bar lubricant to the clay bar, and then rub the clay bar over the surface of the car, using light pressure. Rinse the car thoroughly after you have finished claying it.
3. Apply Scratch Remover
To remove scratches from the car’s paint, apply a scratch remover to a polishing pad. Apply the scratch remover to the scratched area, and then use a circular motion to rub the scratch remover into the paint. Rinse the car thoroughly after you have finished removing the scratches.
4. Polish the Car
To polish the car, apply a polish to a polishing pad. Apply the polish to the surface of the car, and then use a circular motion to rub the polish into the paint. Rinse the car thoroughly after you have finished polishing it.
5. Wax or Seal the Car
To protect the car’s paint, apply a wax or sealant to the surface of the car. Apply the wax or sealant to a polishing pad, and then use a circular motion to rub the wax or sealant into the paint. Rinse the car thoroughly after you have finished waxing or sealing it.
Tips:
- Use a soft cloth when washing or drying the car to avoid scratching the paint.
- Be sure to rinse the car thoroughly after each step to remove any excess soap, clay, or polish.
- If you are not comfortable repairing the paint yourself, you can take your car to a professional detailer.
