06 Lincoln Town Car Transmission Dipstick
Location
The transmission dipstick on a 2006 Lincoln Town Car is located on the passenger side of the engine, near the firewall. It is a yellow plastic handle with a black cap.
How to Check the Transmission Fluid Level
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Wait a few minutes for the transmission fluid to cool down.
3. Open the hood and locate the transmission dipstick.
4. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission and push it all the way down.
6. Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the two marks on the dipstick.
How to Add Transmission Fluid
If the transmission fluid level is low, you can add more fluid through the dipstick tube. Use a funnel to add the fluid slowly, and check the level frequently to avoid overfilling the transmission.
What Type of Transmission Fluid to Use
The 2006 Lincoln Town Car uses Mercon V transmission fluid. Do not use any other type of fluid, as it could damage the transmission.
When to Check the Transmission Fluid Level
You should check the transmission fluid level every time you change the oil in your vehicle. You should also check the fluid level if you notice any signs of transmission problems, such as slipping gears or difficulty shifting.
Transmission Dipstick Replacement
If the transmission dipstick is damaged or missing, you can replace it with a new one. The new dipstick should be the same length and diameter as the old one.
1. Remove the old transmission dipstick by pulling it out of the transmission.
2. Insert the new dipstick into the transmission and push it all the way down.
3. Check the fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
