  • Transmission fluid filter

Safety Precautions

  • Park the vehicle on a level surface.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Allow the engine to cool before beginning work.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Remove the transmission fluid pan.

  1. Place the transmission fluid pan under the transmission.
  2. Remove the 15mm bolts that hold the transmission fluid pan in place.
  3. Lower the transmission fluid pan and allow the fluid to drain into the pan.

2. Disconnect the transmission lines.

  1. Locate the transmission lines at the front of the transmission.
  2. Use a 18mm socket to loosen the nuts that hold the transmission lines in place.
  3. Pull the transmission lines off of the transmission.

3. Remove the torque converter bolts.

  1. Locate the torque converter bolts at the back of the engine.
  2. Use a 22mm socket to loosen the torque converter bolts.
  3. Remove the torque converter bolts.

4. Remove the transmission mount.

  1. Locate the transmission mount at the bottom of the transmission.
  2. Use a 18mm socket to loosen the nuts that hold the transmission mount in place.
  3. Remove the transmission mount.

5. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  1. Locate the electrical connectors at the side of the transmission.
  2. Use a small screwdriver to disconnect the electrical connectors.

6. Remove the transmission.

  1. Use a floor jack to support the transmission.
  2. Place a jack stand under the transmission for safety.
  3. Use a 24mm socket to remove the transmission-to-engine bolts.
  4. Carefully pull the transmission away from the engine.

7. Inspect the torque converter.

  1. Remove the torque converter from the transmission.
  2. Inspect the torque converter for damage.
  3. Replace the torque converter if it is damaged.

8. Install the new transmission.

  1. Place the new transmission in position.
  2. Install the transmission-to-engine bolts.
  3. Tighten the transmission-to-engine bolts to 25 ft-lbs.

9. Install the transmission mount.

  1. Place the transmission mount in position.
  2. Install the nuts that hold the transmission mount in place.
  3. Tighten the nuts to 18 ft-lbs.

10. Connect the electrical connectors.

  1. Connect the electrical connectors to the side of the transmission.

11. Install the torque converter bolts.

  1. Place the torque converter on the transmission.
  2. Install the torque converter bolts.
  3. Tighten the torque converter bolts to 25 ft-lbs.

12. Connect the transmission lines.

  1. Connect the transmission lines to the transmission.
  2. Tighten the nuts that hold the transmission lines in place to 18 ft-lbs.

13. Install the transmission fluid pan.

  1. Place the transmission fluid pan on the transmission.
  2. Install the 15mm bolts that hold the transmission fluid pan in place.
  3. Tighten the bolts to 10 ft-lbs.

14. Add transmission fluid.

  1. Add transmission fluid to the transmission.
  2. Check the transmission fluid level and add fluid as needed.

15. Test drive the vehicle.

  1. Test drive the vehicle to ensure that the transmission is working properly.

Tips

  • If you are not comfortable removing the transmission yourself, you can have it done by a mechanic.
  • Be sure to use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the correct torque specifications.
