- Transmission fluid drain pan
- New transmission filter
- Transmission fluid
Safety Precautions
- Park the car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Allow the engine to cool down before starting work.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Wear safety glasses and gloves.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Drain the Transmission Fluid
- Place the transmission fluid drain pan under the transmission.
- Locate the transmission fluid drain plug and remove it using a 13mm socket.
- Allow the transmission fluid to drain completely.
- Reinstall the transmission fluid drain plug and tighten it to 25 ft-lbs.
2. Remove the Driveshafts
- Support the driveshafts with a floor jack.
- Remove the bolts that connect the driveshafts to the transmission and differential.
- Carefully pull the driveshafts out of the transmission and differential.
3. Disconnect the Electrical Connectors
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the transmission.
- These connectors are typically held in place by clips or bolts.
4. Remove the Transmission Mount
- Locate the transmission mount and remove the bolts that hold it in place.
- Use a floor jack to support the transmission while you remove the mount.
5. Remove the Transmission Pan
- Place the transmission fluid drain pan under the transmission.
- Remove the bolts that hold the transmission pan in place.
- Carefully remove the transmission pan and allow any remaining transmission fluid to drain out.
6. Remove the Transmission Filter
- Locate the transmission filter and remove the bolts that hold it in place.
- Pull the transmission filter out of the transmission.
- Install the new transmission filter and tighten the bolts to 10 ft-lbs.
7. Remove the Transmission
- Use a transmission jack or a floor jack with a transmission adapter to support the transmission.
- Remove the bolts that connect the transmission to the engine.
- Carefully pull the transmission away from the engine.
8. Inspect the Transmission
- Inspect the transmission for any damage or leaks.
- If there is any damage or leaks, the transmission may need to be replaced.
9. Install the New Transmission
- Carefully lift the new transmission into place.
- Install the bolts that connect the transmission to the engine and tighten them to 65 ft-lbs.
10. Install the Transmission Pan
- Install the transmission pan and tighten the bolts to 10 ft-lbs.
11. Install the Transmission Mount
- Install the transmission mount and tighten the bolts to 30 ft-lbs.
12. Connect the Electrical Connectors
- Connect the electrical connectors to the transmission.
