2009 Smart Car Transmission Fluid Check

Introduction

The transmission fluid in your 2009 Smart Car is responsible for lubricating the gears and other components in the transmission. It also helps to cool the transmission and prevent wear and tear. Checking the transmission fluid level and condition is an important part of regular maintenance, and it’s something that you can easily do yourself.

Materials

  • Clean rag or paper towels
  • Transmission fluid dipstick

Safety Precautions

  • Park your Smart Car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Allow the engine to cool for at least 30 minutes before checking the transmission fluid level.

Instructions

  1. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually located on the passenger side of the engine, near the front of the vehicle.
  2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag or paper towel.
  3. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission and push it all the way in.
  4. Pull out the dipstick again and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks on the dipstick.
  5. If the fluid level is low, add fluid through the dipstick tube using a funnel. Use the type of fluid that is recommended in your Smart Car’s owner’s manual.
  6. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again. Repeat this process until the fluid level is correct.

Tips

  • Check the transmission fluid level regularly, especially if you are towing or driving in hilly areas.
  • If the transmission fluid is dark or smells burnt, it may need to be replaced.
  • If you have any questions about checking the transmission fluid level or condition, consult your Smart Car’s owner’s manual or a qualified mechanic.
