How to Add Transmission Fluid to a 1995 Lincoln Town Car
Materials You’ll Need
- Transmission fluid (check your owner’s manual for the recommended type and quantity)
- Funnel
- Rags or paper towels
Safety Precautions
- Park your Town Car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Allow the engine to cool down before checking or adding transmission fluid.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from hot fluid.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Locate the Transmission Dipstick
Open the hood and locate the transmission dipstick. It is usually located near the back of the engine, close to the firewall. The dipstick will have a yellow or red handle and will be labeled “Transmission Fluid” or “ATF.”
2. Pull Out the Dipstick and Check the Fluid Level
Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag or paper towel. Reinsert the dipstick fully into the transmission and then pull it out again. The fluid level should be between the “Add” and “Full” marks on the dipstick.
3. Add Transmission Fluid if Necessary
If the fluid level is below the “Add” mark, you will need to add transmission fluid. Insert a funnel into the transmission dipstick tube and slowly pour in the fluid. Do not overfill the transmission.
4. Recheck the Fluid Level
Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again. The fluid level should now be between the “Add” and “Full” marks. If the fluid level is still low, add more fluid and recheck.
5. Clean Up
Wipe up any spilled transmission fluid with a rag or paper towel. Dispose of the used rags or paper towels properly.
Tips
- Check the transmission fluid level regularly, especially before long trips.
- If you notice any leaks or other problems with the transmission, have it inspected by a qualified mechanic.
- Do not use any other type of fluid in the transmission other than what is recommended in your owner’s manual.
