Adding Transmission Fluid to Your Car
Your transmission is one of the most important parts of your car, and it needs to be well-maintained in order to keep your car running smoothly. One of the most important things you can do to maintain your transmission is to check the fluid level and add fluid as needed.
When to Check Your Transmission Fluid
You should check your transmission fluid at least once a month, or more often if you drive in stop-and-go traffic or tow heavy loads. To check the fluid level, follow these steps:
- Park your car on a level surface and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and locate the transmission dipstick.
- Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
- Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission and pull it out again.
- Check the fluid level on the dipstick. The fluid should be between the “full” and “add” marks.
How to Add Transmission Fluid
If the fluid level is low, you will need to add fluid. To do this, follow these steps:
- Purchase the correct type of transmission fluid for your car.
