Before Starting a Car with Automatic Transmission
1. Park the car.
This is the most important step, as it will prevent the car from rolling away when you start it. Park the car on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Place the gear selector in park.
This will ensure that the car is in neutral and will not move when you start it.
3. Turn the key to the “on” position.
This will power up the car’s electrical systems, but it will not start the engine.
4. Depress the brake pedal.
This will activate the brake lights and will also prevent the car from starting if it is not in park.
5. Start the engine.
Turn the key to the “start” position and hold it there until the engine starts. Once the engine is running, release the key.
6. Release the brake pedal.
The car will now be in gear and will move forward if you do not apply the brakes.
7. Drive safely!
Now that you have started the car, you can drive it safely. Remember to obey all traffic laws and be cautious of other drivers.
