CarMax Sold Me a Car with a Bad Transmission

I am writing this post to warn others about my experience with CarMax. I purchased a used car from them in 2020, and within a few months, the transmission started to fail. I took it back to CarMax, and they told me that the transmission was not covered under warranty. I was forced to pay for a new transmission out of pocket.

The CarMax Inspection

Before I purchased the car, CarMax performed an inspection on it. The inspection report said that the car was in “good condition” and that there were no major problems. I relied on this inspection report when I made my decision to purchase the car.

The Transmission Problems

A few months after I purchased the car, the transmission started to slip. I took it back to CarMax, and they told me that the transmission was not covered under warranty. I was forced to pay for a new transmission out of pocket.

The Cost of the Repair

The cost of the new transmission was over $3,000. This was a significant expense that I was not prepared for. I am now struggling to make ends meet because of this unexpected expense.

CarMax’s Response

I have contacted CarMax several times about this issue. They have refused to take responsibility for the transmission failure. They claim that the transmission was not covered under warranty and that I am responsible for the cost of the repair.

My Advice

I urge others to be cautious when purchasing a used car from CarMax. Their inspection reports are not reliable, and they may not be willing to stand behind their products. I wish I had known about my experience before I purchased my car from CarMax.

What Can You Do?

If you have purchased a used car from CarMax and are experiencing transmission problems, I encourage you to contact them. You may be able to get your transmission repaired under warranty. If CarMax refuses to take responsibility, you may want to consider filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau or your state’s attorney general’s office.

Thank you for reading.

I hope that my story will help others avoid the same experience that I have had. Please share this post with others so that they can be aware of the risks of purchasing a used car from CarMax.
