Check Transmission Fluid 2013 Smart Car
Tools and Materials
- 10mm socket wrench
- Funnel
- Transmission fluid (for 2013 Smart Car, use Mercedes-Benz ATF 134 FE or equivalent)
- Rags
Safety Precautions
- Park the car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Allow the engine to cool down before checking the transmission fluid.
- Wear gloves and eye protection when handling transmission fluid.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Locate the Transmission Fluid Dipstick
The transmission fluid dipstick is located on the passenger side of the engine, near the firewall. It has a yellow handle and is labeled “ATF.”
2. Pull Out the Dipstick and Wipe It Clean
Use a rag to wipe the dipstick clean. Reinsert the dipstick fully into the transmission fluid tube.
3. Pull Out the Dipstick Again and Check the Fluid Level
The transmission fluid level should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick. If the fluid level is low, add fluid through the dipstick tube using a funnel.
4. Add Transmission Fluid
Add transmission fluid slowly, checking the fluid level on the dipstick as you go. Do not overfill the transmission.
5. Reinsert the Dipstick
Once the fluid level is correct, reinsert the dipstick fully into the transmission fluid tube.
6. Check for Leaks
Inspect the transmission fluid dipstick tube and the surrounding area for any leaks. If you find any leaks, tighten the dipstick tube or repair the leak as necessary.
Additional Tips
* Check the transmission fluid level regularly, especially if you notice any signs of transmission problems, such as slipping gears or difficulty shifting.
* If the transmission fluid is dark or smells burnt, it may need to be replaced.
* Refer to your car’s owner’s manual for the specific transmission fluid type and capacity for your 2013 Smart Car.
