How to Remove Dealership Sticker from Car Body

Materials You’ll Need

  • Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Goo Gone or other adhesive remover
  • Plastic razor blade (optional)
  • Hairdryer (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Choose a cool, shaded area. Do not attempt to remove the sticker in direct sunlight, as the heat can make the adhesive more difficult to remove.
  2. Clean the area around the sticker. Use a microfiber cloth dampened with water to remove any dirt or debris from the area around the sticker.
  3. Apply isopropyl alcohol to the sticker. Dampen a microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol and gently rub it over the sticker. Allow the alcohol to sit for a few minutes to soften the adhesive.
  4. Use a plastic razor blade to gently scrape off the sticker. Hold the razor blade at a 45-degree angle to the surface of the car and gently scrape away the sticker. Be careful not to press too hard, as you could scratch the paint.
  5. Apply Goo Gone to any remaining adhesive. If there is any remaining adhesive on the surface of the car, apply a small amount of Goo Gone to a microfiber cloth and gently rub it over the area. Allow the Goo Gone to sit for a few minutes to dissolve the adhesive.
  6. Use a hairdryer to soften the adhesive (optional). If you are having difficulty removing the adhesive, you can use a hairdryer to heat it up. Hold the hairdryer about 6 inches away from the surface of the car and heat the adhesive until it becomes soft.
  7. Wipe away the adhesive. Once the adhesive has been softened, use a microfiber cloth to wipe it away.
  8. Wash and wax the area. Once the sticker and adhesive have been removed, wash the area with soap and water to remove any remaining residue. Then, apply a coat of wax to the area to protect the paint.

Tips

  • Start by testing the isopropyl alcohol in an inconspicuous area to make sure it does not damage the paint.
  • Be patient! Removing a dealership sticker can take some time and effort.
  • If you are unable to remove the sticker with the methods described above, you can take your car to a professional detailer.
