How to Remove Vinyl Decals from Car Body
Materials You’ll Need
- Heat gun or hair dryer
- Plastic scraper or credit card
- Goo Gone or rubbing alcohol
- Clean cloths or paper towels
Steps
- Heat the decal. Using a heat gun or hair dryer, heat the decal for 30-60 seconds. This will soften the adhesive and make it easier to remove.
- Peel off the decal. Once the decal is heated, carefully peel it off the car body. Use a plastic scraper or credit card to help loosen the adhesive if necessary.
- Remove any remaining adhesive. Use Goo Gone or rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining adhesive from the car body. Apply the cleaner to a clean cloth or paper towel and gently rub the area until the adhesive is removed.
- Wash the area. Once the adhesive is removed, wash the area with soap and water to remove any remaining cleaner.
Tips
- If the decal is large or has been on the car for a long time, it may be more difficult to remove. You may need to heat it for longer or use a stronger adhesive remover.
- Be careful not to overheat the decal, as this can damage the paint on your car.
- If you are having trouble removing the decal, you can take your car to a professional detailer. They will have the tools and expertise to remove the decal safely and quickly.
