Tools You’ll Need

  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Ratchet set
  • Socket set

  • Screwdriver set
  • Transmission fluid

  • Transmission filter
  • New transmission

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Safety First

Before you begin, park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool down completely.

2. Raise the Car

Place the floor jack under the front of the car and raise it until there is about 18 inches of clearance between the ground and the car.

3. Support the Car

Place the jack stands under the car and lower the car onto the stands.

4. Disconnect the Battery

Locate the negative terminal on the battery and disconnect it using a wrench.

5. Remove the Driveshaft

Locate the driveshaft and disconnect it from the transmission using a wrench.

6. Remove the Transmission Pan

Locate the transmission pan and remove the bolts that hold it in place using a ratchet and socket set.

7. Drain the Transmission Fluid

Place a drain pan under the transmission and remove the drain plug using a wrench. Allow all of the transmission fluid to drain out.

8. Remove the Transmission Filter

Locate the transmission filter and remove the bolts that hold it in place using a ratchet and socket set.

9. Remove the Transmission Mount Bolts

Locate the transmission mount bolts and remove them using a wrench.

10. Remove the Transmission

Using a transmission jack or a friend, carefully remove the transmission from the car.

11. Inspect the Transmission

12. Install the New Transmission
