How to Spray Paint RC Car Body
Materials you will need:
- RC car body
- Sandpaper (120, 220, 400 grit)
- Masking tape
- Primer
- Spray paint (base coat and clear coat)
- Rubbing compound
- Polishing compound
Step 1: Preparation
Begin by sanding the RC car body with 120-grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections or debris. Next, use 220-grit sandpaper to further smooth the surface. Finally, use 400-grit sandpaper to give the body a smooth finish.
Once the body is sanded, it’s time to mask off any areas you don’t want to paint. This includes the windows, headlights, taillights, and any other details.
Step 2: Priming
Apply a thin coat of primer to the body and allow it to dry completely. This will help the paint adhere better and provide a smooth base for the paint.
Step 3: Painting
Now it’s time to apply the base coat of paint. Hold the spray can about 12 inches from the body and spray in even strokes. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next.
Once the base coat is dry, it’s time to apply the clear coat. This will protect the paint from scratches and fading.
Step 4: Finishing
Once the clear coat is dry, you can remove the masking tape. If there are any imperfections in the paint, you can use rubbing compound and polishing compound to smooth them out.
Your RC car body is now complete! Enjoy the new look of your car.
Additional tips:
- Use a respirator when spraying paint.
- Test the paint on a piece of scrap plastic before spraying it on the body.
- Allow each coat of paint to dry completely before applying the next.
- Don’t spray paint in direct sunlight or in a humid environment.
- If you’re not happy with the results, you can always strip the paint and start over.
