Lifting a Manual Transmission Car
Lifting a manual transmission car can be a bit more challenging than lifting an automatic transmission car, but it’s still a relatively simple task that can be completed by following the steps below.
Safety First
Before you start, it’s important to make sure that you have the proper safety equipment and that you are following the manufacturer’s instructions for lifting the car.
- Park the car on a level surface.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the wheels that will not be lifted.
Equipment
You will need a floor jack and a jack stand to lift the car.
- Floor jack: A floor jack is a hydraulic jack that is used to lift the car.
- Jack stand: A jack stand is a metal stand that is used to support the car while it is lifted.
Steps
To lift a manual transmission car, follow these steps:
- Position the floor jack: Place the floor jack under the car’s lift point. The lift point is usually located near the center of the car, under the engine or transmission.
- Pump the floor jack: Pump the floor jack until the car is lifted off the ground.
- Place the jack stand: Place the jack stand next to the floor jack, under the car’s lift point.
- Lower the car onto the jack stand: Slowly lower the car onto the jack stand.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for the other side of the car: Repeat steps 2-4 to lift the other side of the car.
- If you are not sure where the lift point is located, consult your car’s owner’s manual.
- Never work under a car that is supported only by a floor jack.
- Always use jack stands when lifting a car.
- If you are not comfortable lifting the car yourself, you can have it done by a mechanic.
