Mousetrap Car Body
Materials
- 1/8″ balsa wood
- 1/16″ balsa wood
- Toothpicks
- Glue
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pencil
Instructions
- Cut two pieces of 1/8″ balsa wood to the desired length of your car body. These will be the sides of the body.
- Cut two pieces of 1/16″ balsa wood to the desired width of your car body. These will be the top and bottom of the body.
- Glue the sides of the body to the top and bottom pieces, forming a rectangular box.
- Cut a piece of 1/16″ balsa wood to the desired length of your car body. This will be the front of the body.
- Glue the front of the body to the front of the box, aligning it with the top and bottom edges.
- Cut a piece of 1/16″ balsa wood to the desired length of your car body. This will be the back of the body.
- Glue the back of the body to the back of the box, aligning it with the top and bottom edges.
- Cut two pieces of 1/16″ balsa wood to the desired width of your car body. These will be the fenders of the body.
- Glue the fenders to the sides of the body, aligning them with the front and back edges.
- Cut two pieces of 1/16″ balsa wood to the desired length of your car body. These will be the running boards of the body.
- Glue the running boards to the bottom of the body, aligning them with the sides of the body.
- Cut a piece of 1/16″ balsa wood to the desired length of your car body. This will be the spoiler of the body.
- Glue the spoiler to the back of the body, aligning it with the top edge.
- Your mousetrap car body is now complete!
Tips
- You can use different thicknesses of balsa wood to create different effects. For example, you can use 1/4″ balsa wood for the sides of the body to make it more durable.
- You can also use different types of wood to create different effects. For example, you can use pine wood for the fenders to make them more flexible.
- Be sure to glue all of the pieces of your car body together securely. This will help to prevent it from falling apart during the race.
- You can paint or decorate your car body to make it look more unique.
