* The patient will participate in social situations and activities without feeling self-conscious about their amputated limb.
* The patient will express confidence in their ability to have future relationships and be intimate.
Interventions
* Promote a positive body image. This can be done by:
* Encouraging the patient to talk about their feelings and concerns about their body image.
* Providing information about the physical and emotional changes that occur after amputation.
* Helping the patient to identify their strengths and abilities.
* Encouraging the patient to participate in activities that make them feel good about themselves.
* Facilitate social interaction. This can be done by:
* Encouraging the patient to participate in group activities or support groups.
* Helping the patient to find social activities that they enjoy.
* Providing opportunities for the patient to interact with others who have experienced amputation.
* Address concerns about future relationships and intimacy. This can be done by:
* Talking to the patient about their concerns.

Evaluation
The patient’s progress towards meeting the goals of the care plan will be evaluated on an ongoing basis. The nurse will assess the patient’s verbalizations and nonverbal cues for evidence of a positive body image. The nurse will also observe the patient’s participation in social situations and activities. The nurse will talk to the patient about their concerns about future relationships and intimacy.
