Materials

  • Model car body
  • Automotive primer
  • Automotive paint
  • Clear coat
  • Sandpaper (various grits)
  • Tack cloth
  • Masking tape
  • Airbrush or spray gun
  • Compressor

Preparation

  1. Wash the model car body thoroughly with soap and water to remove any dirt or grease.
  2. Dry the model car body completely.
  3. Sand the model car body lightly with fine-grit sandpaper to create a smooth surface for the primer.
  4. Wipe the model car body down with a tack cloth to remove any dust.

Priming

  1. Apply a thin coat of automotive primer to the model car body.
  2. Allow the primer to dry completely.
  3. Sand the primer lightly with fine-grit sandpaper to smooth the surface.
  4. Wipe the model car body down with a tack cloth to remove any dust.

Painting

  1. Apply a thin coat of automotive paint to the model car body.
  2. Allow the paint to dry completely.
  3. Apply additional coats of paint until you achieve the desired coverage.
  4. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Clear Coating

  1. Apply a thin coat of clear coat to the model car body.
  2. Allow the clear coat to dry completely.
  3. Apply additional coats of clear coat until you achieve the desired gloss.
  4. Allow the clear coat to dry completely.

Tips

  • Use a light touch when sanding the model car body.
  • Allow each coat of primer, paint, and clear coat to dry completely before applying the next coat.
  • Use a well-ventilated area when painting the model car body.
  • Wear a respirator when painting the model car body.
