Torque Converter

The torque converter is a fluid coupling that connects the engine to the transmission. It allows the engine to run at a higher speed than the transmission, which is necessary for smooth shifting.

Transmission Case

The transmission case is the housing that contains the transmission’s gears and other components. It is made of aluminum or magnesium and is designed to be lightweight and strong.

Planetary Gearsets

Planetary gearsets are the gears that make up the transmission. They are arranged in a series of planetary gears that rotate around a sun gear. The sun gear is connected to the engine, and the planetary gears are connected to the transmission.

Shift Drums and Forks

Shift drums and forks are the components that shift the gears. The shift drums are connected to the transmission’s control unit, and the shift forks are connected to the planetary gearsets. When the control unit sends a signal to the shift drums, they move the shift forks to engage the appropriate gears.

Valve Body

The valve body is the component that controls the flow of fluid through the transmission. It is made of aluminum or magnesium and is designed to be lightweight and durable.

Governor

The governor is a component that controls the transmission’s shift points. It is connected to the transmission’s output shaft and measures the speed of the transmission. When the transmission reaches a certain speed, the governor sends a signal to the control unit, which shifts the transmission to a higher gear.

Transmission Cooler

The transmission cooler is a component that helps to keep the transmission fluid cool. It is located in the radiator and is designed to transfer heat from the transmission fluid to the coolant.

Transmission Pan

The transmission pan is the component that holds the transmission fluid. It is made of aluminum or magnesium and is designed to be lightweight and durable.

Transmission Filter

The transmission filter is a component that removes contaminants from the transmission fluid. It is located in the transmission pan and is designed to be replaced at regular intervals.
