Where to Put Transmission Fluid in a Car
Step 1: Locate the Transmission
The transmission is usually located at the bottom of the engine, behind the oil pan. It is a large, metal casing with a number of hoses and wires connected to it.
Step 2: Identify the Transmission Fluid Dipstick
The transmission fluid dipstick is a thin, metal rod with a handle on the end. It is usually located near the top of the transmission.
Step 3: Remove the Dipstick and Check the Fluid Level
Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag. Then, reinsert the dipstick all the way into the transmission. Pull it out again and check the fluid level. The fluid should be between the “full” and “add” marks on the dipstick.
Step 4: Add Transmission Fluid if Necessary
If the fluid level is low, you need to add transmission fluid. Use a funnel to pour the fluid into the transmission. Add fluid a little at a time, checking the level after each addition. Do not overfill the transmission.
Step 5: Replace the Dipstick
Once you have added enough fluid, replace the dipstick. Make sure to push it all the way in.
Step 6: Check for Leaks
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, check under the car for any leaks. If you see any leaks, you need to have the transmission inspected by a mechanic.
Tips
* Check the transmission fluid level regularly, especially if you are experiencing any transmission problems.
* Use the type of transmission fluid that is recommended for your car.
* Do not overfill the transmission.
* If you are not comfortable adding transmission fluid yourself, you can have it done by a mechanic.
